HPL: why material choice defines performance

Fitness centre changing rooms are among the most demanding environments for any locker: constant humidity from showers, daily contact with sports bags and hundreds of members cycling through every day. Generic steel or plastic locker systems were never designed for this. HPL was.

High-pressure laminate is produced by bonding multiple layers of resin-impregnated paper under extreme heat and pressure, resulting in a panel that is structurally stable, non-porous and resistant to the full range of conditions a gym changing room produces.

  • Long-term durability. HPL resists scratches, impacts and daily abrasion for decades. In high-turnover environments, the difference from lighter-grade alternatives becomes visible within months.
  • Moisture resistance. Steel corrodes, MDF swells. HPL is structurally unaffected by humidity, keeping doors true and panels flat over the full service life.
  • B-s1 fire rating. Patentverwag fitness center lockers are available with B-s1 fire safety certification, compliant with requirements for commercial gyms and public sports facilities.
  • Hygienic surface. Non-porous finish, no cavities for bacteria. Maintenance requires nothing more than a standard surface wipe.

Reflex Upside came to us with a clear brief: a changing room that would reinforce the premium positioning of the club, not contradict it. The spaces members move through before and after training are part of the product. A locker room that reads as an afterthought undermines everything the rest of the facility communicates.

We supplied a full HPL gym locker system in a custom colour palette, coordinated with the club’s interior scheme. The installation covers male and female changing areas, with full-height lockers, integrated bench modules, and a locking system chosen for ease of use at high daily turnover.
